Saadani National Park

Saadani National park is a very special one because it is the only wildlife sanctuary in East Africa next to the ocean. It's the place where the bush meets the beach! This is the most recent national park in Tanzania which transformed it from a once forgotten reserve to a very attractive tourist destination.
Along its 20km coastline, it's famous for its grassland interspersed with acacia trees and knotted coastal thicket.

Significant variety of wildlife. One can find large predators like lions, leopards and spotted hyenas. Other nocturnal predators include the civet, the serval, the genet and the African wild cat. But, of course, there are other prominent species like elephants, hippos, waterbucks, reedbucks, hartebeest, wildebeest, bushbucks, crocodiles, yellow baboons, vervet monkeys, elands, giraffes, zebras, warthogs, red dunkers and greater kudus. The ocean and river brings a great variety of marine and river birds. Another interesting thing about this park is that its beaches form one of the last major breeding sites for green turtles.

When to go

In terms of wildlife concentration, the best months would be January, February, June and August when the plains hold more eater. However, the park is open during the entire year.

What to do

4x4 game safaris, boat rides, guided walks, relaxing in the beach.

What we suggest

If you don't have much time and budget to do a Northern circuit Safari and go to Zanzibar but want to enjoy both the bush and the beach, we'd definitely recommend this park. It is definitely an enjoyable retreat allowing you to relax in the beach and do some interesting game drives. 2 days would be enough to have a good experience in this park.
